One of my most a distinct memories with my Xbox is the time I experienced the dreaded ring of death. I had planned a huge Xbox party with all of my friends and we were going to get together for some multiplayer fun. Our sessions would usually last for hours and they were legendary for producing big laughs and wonderful times. I had just started a new job at the time so it was difficult for me to find time to have as many Xbox sessions as I would like.
So this was something of a reunion for me and my friends, and it was going to be a blast. I had everything set up perfectly and as each of my friends came over, one by one we were getting more excited at the gaming that was to ensue. We had brought along our best peripherals and our favorite games, and there was no stopping our session from being extremely fun.
Up until that point, I never knew about the Xbox ring of death. But sure enough, as we turned on our first game that’s exactly what we experience. One of my friends exclaimed that this was the worst thing that could happen. My previous experience with video games dictated that I should just stay cool and things would fix themselves. After all, even with my most basic Nintendo system that I originally owned 10 years ago, that’s exactly what I did.
But no matter what we tried, we could not fix this Xbox and our gaming session was pretty much over. This was one of the most frustrating things ever because it seemed like a chess shouldn’t be happening. How could such a modern piece of technology simply refuse to work, and why didn’t have its own term?
