Karaoke Machine Guide – how to buy a good machine

There are a variety of karaoke machines on the market and each will have good points as well as bad. However, the consumer has a great advantage because the general quality of  machines available today is quite high. With some patience and smart shopping you can re-create the karaoke experience in your own home.

Where to look for a karaoke machine?

Well if you’re on this karaoke website that’s a good place to start. Singing is such a popular activity that voice machines can be found all over the place. If ever in doubt, you can do a good amount of online browsing to find the  machine that best suits your needs. The best place to start is to ask your friends and see if they have a good system that they can recommend. After doing good research then you will be ready to find a product that you can call your own.

How much to spend?

There is a wide range in product prices to match the wide range of machines themselves. You should start with a workable budget first and chances are you will be able to find a good karaoke product somewhere.

What type of machine?

You should be careful to know the difference between a device that plugs into your television, a  system that works as a stand-alone product with its own display, and finally a lower end machine that will simply play music while you sing into a connected microphone. For a full-blown karaoke experience similar to what you would get at a bar, you will want a higher-end product that displays on your television screen or comes with its own screen. As such, you might also have to invest in a good TV in addition to a decent sounds system. Some people have setups that cover the top-to-bottom approach of karaoke singing where everything from the TV to the sound to the room itself is tailored for a karaoke experience. Start by considering what you have already, what you would like in the end, and what you’re willing to spend.

Extras

Most karaoke machines come with microphones so consider the quality of those and if need be, buy more professional ones. You will also want to find a machine that can accommodate two or more microphones to allow for the full experience. There are also some systems that come with audio recording and capture video so you can see yourself while you sing. In the old days karaoke systems where very simple, using audio cassettes that came with books with the lyrics written in them. But now you can very modern machines with their own audio effects, display screens, the ability to play CDs. You will want a product that can play CD-G karaoke discs. Think about how in-depth of a  fan you are as a true beginner will probably be satisfied with the machine itself and not need all the fancy extras.

Buy used?

There is of course always the option of buying a used device. But if you have a budget of $200 or more then it would not be a bad idea to look into a new one. Used machines can be found online and sometimes you can even get a bargain if you ask a karaoke bar manager if they have any used machines that they are willing to sell. For a real old school approach you can sometimes find old laser disk systems with accompanying karaoke laser disks. This would be found through the classified and probably come as a package deal from people looking to unload this equipment. Keep in mind the technology is dated and you will have a hard time finding new laser discs.
