Karaoke System Dos and Donts

Karaoke System Do’s and Don’ts

When looking to buy a Karaoke machine there is such a variety on the market that it can make the task very difficult. It is not uncommon for a person to set out looking for one specific machine and end up going home with something else entirely. Sometimes there simply isn’t one karaoke system that will give you everything you’re looking for, although some come pretty close. However with advances in technology and the increase in popularity of karaoke, product makers are doing a good job keeping customers satisfied so it really is a buyer’s market right now. So if you are looking to buy a karaoke system right now, here is a list of simple “don’ts” to be aware of to make sure you get the product you are looking for.

How to buy a karaoke system do’s and don’ts

1. Don’t settle. It can be tempting to get a machine just for the sake of getting a machine. Sometimes people will walk into a store, not see anything they truly like, but end up buying something because they want to get singing right away. But in this game, patience and research pays off. You should be ready to browse both in person and online, read product reviews, and don’t buy the first product you see.

2. Don’t go over budget. Karaoke systems can get very expensive for higher-end models. But make sure to estimate a decent budget and then stick within that price range. If you are not careful you could rack up the dollars on a machine, accessories, and music CDs. If you are a casual  fan then keep an eye on prices because you probably won’t need all the fancy features of the most expensive machines.

3. Do buy more than one mic. Most karaoke systems will come with one microphone, but keep in mind that you will probably at some point need another. After all, no one likes to sing alone all the time, and singing duets are also really fun. So make sure to get a machine that is two-microphone capable. And remember, the quality of the sound is only as good as your microphone so invest in a good one.

4. Do ask your friends. Sometimes a second opinion is the best thing to have, and especially if it’s an educated opinion. So ask your friends if they know anything about decent machines and better yet, hopefully you will have a buddy who already owns one. Sometimes people want to be original and buy a model different from what their friends have, but if it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it as a good machine will work just as well in your own home as it will in your friend’s.

5. Do prepare for the long term. A karaoke system is something that can pay for itself eventually and if you make the right choice, it’s something that can last you a long time. So keep that in mind and don’t sacrifice quality for convenience. Some people go years with one karaoke system and by the time they want a new one, they can invest in an upgraded model of the same brand.

6. Don’t buy a kid’s machine if not for a kid. There are many machines that are marketed directly to kids and they are good in their own right. But if you want a machine for yourself and your own friends then you will want something more sophisticated. Most systems for kids are compact and portable but the sound quality is limited. They also come with music CDs that are targeted at children so be aware of that too.

7. Do have fun. You aren’t doing brain surgery or running a marathon. You’re buying a karoke machine which is a luxury item for entertainment so it should be fun above all else. So enjoy the process of looking at different karaoke machines and don’t get frustrated. Have fun and start singing today!
