2 cheaper models, worth it or not?
When looking into Karaoke machines you have a wide range of options. You can go cheap or you can go expensive, it is always up to you and you should stick to a budget that fits your needs. A karaoke system is an entertainment purchase after all so you should think carefully about how much you want to spend. Some people are tempted to go overboard on occasion since it’s very easy to get carried away when looking at a shiny brand new system. There is also the possibility of further going overboard when buying all the accessories that can go with a karaoke machine such as microphones, speakers, and of course the CDs/ music.
Here are two cheaper models available on the market along with brief product reviews. As you can see, cheap isn’t always the way to go since they suffer a bit in sound quality, but there viable inexpensive options if you are looking for a quick casual purchase that won’t dent your wallet tremendously.
Emerson Peak Power 650 Complete CDG Karaoke System
While this product will cost over a hundred dollars, it will still be put in the inexpensive category. The selling feature of this model is the iPod compatibility that will allow you to access some of your favourite songs with your Apple iPod. Just be sure to check if your brand of iPod is compatible, while it does accommodate a lot of brands, there are a few select types of iPod that it does not work with. The product is small and portable, but that also means that it comes with a very small screen that can become annoying to read for long periods of time or extended singing sessions. This of course can be remedied by plugging the machine into your TV directly. The speakers are contained within the main body of the machine itself which means it’s an all-in-one package, but you will have to realistic about sound expectations. It will basically sound like a radio player when it’s operating on its own. If you are looking for the immersive full audience effect then you will of course have to go with a higher-end system that is both larger and capable of more extensive sound.
Singing Machine SML-385 Top Loading CDG Karaoke System
This model is similar to the one listed above but instead of iPod compatibility, the main feature of this system is a disco lightshow capability that is built into the system near where the speakers are. This boils down to various LED lights flashing in time to the music as a person sings along. This will mostly appeal to children who want to put on pretend concerts with their friends. As with the above model, a microphone is included and it works pretty well with the system. A sample CD also comes included so that you can be setup and singing right away.
Conclusion: This will be a good simple purchase for a child interested in karaoke. You won’t get the full karaoke experience in terms of sound and scale, but a group of children or teens can have a great time with this product. They are basically ready out of the box and a can be used for karaoke games to make things more interesting. If you are a very casual karaoke fan and just want to dabble from time to time, then this is a decent purchase and the iPod adaptability is a fun feature.
