Top Song Mashups to Make You Say WTF?

There are some pretty talented people out there who use their skills to make the best mashups that will blow your mind. By the way, in case you don’t know what a mashup is, it’s went two separate songs are taken and then blended together into one song (duh). Sometimes they come out quite wonderful as with this
John Lennon and Van Halen mashup. And then other times you get something that makes you say WTF!?

But don’t misunderstand, “WTF” doesn’t mean it’s necessarily bad or entirely horrible. Sometimes it might mean that two songs that are from completely different realms are blended together so skillfully that you can’t help but say “WTF!”. Or maybe they come from such different genres that you never expected the songs could be connected in any way. Whatever the case may be, the people behind these mashups have undeniable talent and a keen ear in order to do what they do.

Here are out top five picks for the best mashups that will make you say WTF?
*We haven’t included any mashups that contains swear words because that’s just cheating.

Vanilla Ice and Queen
Without listening to it at first you might think that a mashup wouldn’t even be possible since the Vanilla Ice song basically samples from Queen. To put it in the most gentle terms possible, there wouldn’t be “Ice Ice Baby” without “Under Pressure” (ok, it was a ripoff), so a mash up might seem like more of a reconstruction. But take a listen to this and see how the creators managed to pull it off.

Jackson 5 and Nirvana

This is a true WTF mashup because it effectively takes one of the original grunge anthems and turns it into…we don’t even know what to call it. But it’s hilarious. Just show it to a friend without telling them what it is. They are guaranteed to say WTF!? Maybe even before Cobain starts singing.

Here is another Nirvana mashup with “Teen Spirit” as the main track instead.

Kanye West and Beethoven

This is a weird one because Kanye West’s “Goldigger” already borrows from Ray Charles, so you’ve got a song that is mashed up with the Motown classic that is now mashed up with Beethoven. And it’s not really Beethoven either since it’s the remix that was featured on the “Saturday night Fever”soundtrack. And then you throw in a sample from Usher (nicely placed by the way) and you’ve got a mash up of a whole ton of songs. It might not be as WTF as the other choices on the list, but it’s nice to see the video for this song again.

Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears

Usually when it comes to a mash up there is the main track in the background and then lyrics from another song that are imposed on top. But when it comes to this one, there are points where you don’t know which song you’re listening to and what is supposed to be in the background. Make sure not to have a headache before you watch this video because attempting to figure things out might be enough to put you into a coma. We actually like both of these singers on their own, but put their voices together and overlap them to the point where we don’t know what’s going on, and all we can think about is being trapped in a mall with a girlfriend who wants to shop for 5 more hours. Horrifying.
