Why Glee Sucks

If you happen to be a Glee fan then you aren’t going to like this article very much.  But in about two years you are going to feel the same way that I do. Glee was good for about two episodes and then it started to suck.  If you have seen half an episode of Glee then you have seen everything there is to see.

Big nose girl says something
Kid in Wheelchair makes a comment
Sue Sylvester says something angry
The dumb guy look dumb
Insert plagiarized song here.

I have just written a script for an episode of glee.  It took me about 5 minutes which is about the same amount of time the writers for the show take because most of the scripts involve stealing material from much more talented people.  I actually have to give the creators of the show credit because if I could find a way to present other people’s work as my own I would do that in a heartbeat.  The producers of Glee basically take classic songs that people love and have their cast members sing them while they record it all on film.  Something about the human brain makes it so that people who watch it are somehow entertained.  I’m not sure if there are people who actually think but this show is original, but I suspect they are.  These people are called teenagers and they don’t know any better because they actually haven’t been exposed to some of the artists that did the original songs.

Buy this if you have no taste

Glee holds the record for top number one singles downloaded on iTunes.  That is absolutely ridiculous and proves that we might just be living in the matrix.  These songs don’t belong to those kids on Glee and yet somehow there is going to be a legion of teenagers who think that they do.  The cast has become more famous than anyone could imagine. It wouldn’t be so bad if the new updated versions were actually somehow better than the originals –but they aren’t.  That’s something that most people seem to gloss over, the new versions of the songs are absolutely horrible.  They don’t contain any of the uniqueness of the originals because they aren’t originals.  They’re sung by admittedly talented performers, but none of them are individual superstars who have the star power to carry a solo singing career on their own.

If you’d took away all of the songs from an episode of Glee you would have a mediocre program that is supposed to be a comedy.  There is really nothing entertaining about the way the characters interact or the characters themselves.  They are all pretty generic and nothing makes them stand out aside from the fact that some are prettier than others.  The storylines are mundane and very difficult to follow simply because they are so boring.  Again, without the songs Glee is a very horrible show.  And with the songs, it’s not that much better.  It certainly is different and Fox should be commended for initially giving they show a shot.  But the potential that this show demonstrated in the beginning has long since dissolved and there is nothing new to bring to the table.  If you want to see a real comedy, then watch Modern Family.  If you want to hear good songs then download them from the original artists.  There is no real reason to watch Glee and I think the general audience is going to catch up with that opinion pretty soon.

Believe me, I am not an entirely cynical person who rages against any show that becomes popular.  I truly love television programs that are unique and enjoyable to watch.  I was really excited about Glee and like I said, I found the first two episodes to be pretty great.  But the show has long since stalled and I don’t think it has much of a shelf life.
